Standardised Mapping

To promote continuity between the geographic databases throughout Denmark, an initiative to standardise geodata across the country has been launched. While improving interoperability between applications, this also promotes seamless country-wide egovernment.

Public authorities at all levels- national, regional and communal- map their own administrative districts. Most hold common data, such as files of roads and buildings, which can be exchanged if the data are organised according to the same standards. When these authorities update their collections with new data from the National Survey and Cadastre or send new data to the central mapping agency’s geodata bank, integration is straightforward if all parties structure their data the same way.

This project, known in Danish by the acronym FOT, will improve the efficiency of geodata sharing and public administration in general. It is being driven by the Spatial Data Service Community and the Association of the Danish Local Authority Technical Directors.
