While ETRS89 is being promoted as Denmark’s principal reference system, a number of other older systems remain in use. It is possible to shift between reference systems using transformation applications, and the National Survey and Cadastre has developed a number of tools for simple and complex coordinate transformations.
Simple transformation
Both public and private geodata users can access the National Survey and Cadastre’s simple transformation tool. This tool is primarily used for transforming data from older reference systems to ETRS89 (reference system), DVR90 (height system) and UTM/ETRS89 (map projection). Click on ‘Simple Transformation’ to the right to access this tool (in Danish).
Complex transformation
Transformation functions are generally built into GIS systems, but most come from the US market and are not equipped to handle transformations based on Danish reference systems.
The National Survey and Cadastre has developed KMSTrans and a number of other complex transformation programmes that provide highly accurate transformation results:
KMSTrans: Transforms coordinates that are entered manually or imported in kms or dsdl formats.
DWGTrans: Transforms AutoCAD data.
KMSTrLib: A transformation library that you can build into your own platform.

All geodata users in Denmark are encouraged to conduct transformations with the National Survey and Cadastre’s transformation applications.
